Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes signed outfielder David Rohm on Wednesday morning.
Rohm has spent the first six years of his professional career in the Atlanta Braves' organization, and batted .259 with one home run and 30 RBI in 100 games last season for the Double-A Southern League's Mississippi Braves. Originally from Fresno, California, Rohm hit .304 with runners in scoring position (69 at bats), while adding 12 doubles, one triple, five stolen bases, and 34 walks. Rohm also led the Southern League with 17 outfield assists. 2015 marked the second straight season in which Rohm played 100 or more games at the Double-A level.
"I'm really excited about the addition of David Rohm," said Goldeyes' manager Rick Forney . "We were looking for an athletic outfielder that hits from the right side to help balance out our lineup, and I truly believe we have found a good one. David is very big at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, but he's athletic enough to play all three outfield positions, as well as the corner infield spots."
Rohm was selected by the Braves as a ninth-round pick in 2010 out of Fresno City College (Fresno, California). As a draft-eligible sophomore that spring, Rohm hit an incredible .503 for the Rams with 51 RBI in 36 collegiate games. Rohm, who bats and throws right-handed, is a .277 career hitter, and has averaged 72 runs scored, 34 doubles, eight triples, and 19 outfield assists per 162 games played. The 26-year-old Rohm owns a lifetime mark of .292 with runners in scoring position (590 at bats), and has hit at least .275 in his career against both right- and left-handed pitching. Rohm has appeared in Major League spring training games for the Braves in five of the last six years, including this past March.
The Goldeyes now have 25 players under contract for the 2016 season. American Association clubs may carry up to 28 players during spring training, which begins Saturday, May 7th.
