Glens Falls Dragons News Release
The Golden Eagles took the field on a hot and humid Saturday night Against the Albany Dutchman one night after scoring 11 runs against rival Amsterdam. What ensued was a hard fought pitchers duel as they came out on top 2-1.
The offense for the Golden Eagles got started with a Jimmy Smith (St. Peter's) home run in the third inning. I knew it off the bat but I didn't want to sit there and watch it. I don't want to be that pretty guy, I want to be known as that gritty guy. Stated Smith on his home run.
The Golden Eagles second run came an inning later when Braxton Martinez (St. Louis) hit a sac fly to center that scored Spencer Johnson (Missouri State).
The lone run of the game for the Dutchman came in the seventh inning when Chris Suseck (Coastal Carolina) singled home Bradley Noland (North Alabama). The Dutchman would have had a second run had Suseck not been thrown out at the plate on a throw that went from left fielder Buddy Putnam (USF) to shortstop JQ Folena (Cabrillo) to Smith behind the plate.
I had 60 something pitches for strikes and 30 something for balls; that's always a good ratio. Stated Golden Eagles starter Zack Hopf (St. Peter's) as he went eight innings of one run ball to earn the win. Rick Morales (Siena) earned the save after pitching a scoreless ninth. JQ Folena left the game in the ninth inning with an apparent shoulder injury.
The Golden Eagles next home game will be on Tuesday June twenty-fifth as Queensbury native Ryan Davis (Le Moyne) will get the start against the Cooperstown Hawkeyes. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 at East Field.
