July 16, 2012 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Glens Falls Dragons News Release

The Glens Falls Golden Eagles seized victory from the jaws of defeat with a 7-6 walk off victory over the league leading Amsterdam Mohawks. Down to their last strike in the bottom of the ninth inning, Alberto Morales singled home Casey Rodrigue from third to tie the game, before Chase Griffin ended it with a double to left, which brought home Morales.

Mike Clarkson (South Florida) earned his first victory of the season to push his record to 1-2, while Connor Kaden (Wake Forest) took the loss to drop to 2-2.

The finish capped off a wild affair which went back and forth throughout the evening. The Mohawks (26-8) started off the scoring in the top of the first as their first five batters reached base off of Glens Falls starter Taylor Saucedo (Tacoma CC) with four hits and a walk, which plated Ed Charlton (NJIT) and Brian Ruby (Binghampton). The Golden Eagles (18-17), however, came back with two of their own in the bottom half of the inning against Amsterdam starter Taylor Martin (Kentucky), as Ross Kivett singled home Danny Brennan (St. Louis), before he came in to score himself on a wild pitch.

Glens Falls tacked on another run in the third inning after Casey Rodrigue (LSU Eunice) tripled, and scored on an RBI groundout from Brennan. Amsterdam got it right back in the fourth, however, on an RBI groundout of their own form Charlton, scoring DeMarcus Henderson.

The Golden Eagles would add on two more runs, one in each of the fifth and sixth innings, as Rodrigue scored an unearned run in the fifth, before a Chase Griffin solo blast in the sixth made the score 5-3 in favor of Glens Falls.

Amsterdam would not go away, however, as a Josh Nethaway (Albany) two RBI single plated Zak Colby ( Faulkner) and Chase Green (SIU Edwardsville) to knot the score at five. Glens Falls threatened to retake the lead in the seventh, against Amsterdam reliever Dan Zlotnik (Marist), but he was pulled with the bases loaded and one out. Kaden came on to strikeout Chase Griffin (Georgia Southern) and retire Mike Vigliarolo (St. Louis) on a strikeout, to preserve the tie.

Neither team threatened in the eighth, before Nethaway put the Mohawks ahead with an RBI single to left field. That set the stage for bottom of the ninth heroics, as Rodrigue led off with a hustle bloop double to left. After Brennan struck out, Rodrigue tagged to third on a Ross Kivett (Kansas State) flyout to right. Morales (Clarendon) then came through with the RBI single, before Griffin won it with his double into left.

Amsterdam is in action again tomorrow, when the host Mohawk Valley at 7:05 PM, while Glens Falls has the day off, before hitting the road on Wednesday at Watertown for a 7:00 PM start.

Note: Kivett reached a Golden Eagles milestone, with his 32nd and 33rd steals of the season, giving him the most in Golden Eagles history.
