Golden Eagles Out Matched Versus Pilots At East Field

GLENS FALLS, NY Saturday night at East Field in Glens Falls, NY, the Glens Falls Golden Eagles faced off against, western conference foe the Newark Pilots. On the mound getting the start for Glens Falls was Neil Fryer (Siena), whereas Mike Saunders (Saginaw Valley State) got the call for the Pilots.
Golden Eagles starter Fryer went four innings on the mound tonight. In the time frame he allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits. He also walked four and struck out one of the twenty-one batters faced. Saunders on the other hand for Newark went six innings of four hit ball allowing two runs (one earned). Also along the way Saunders collected six K's while walking four of the twenty-seven batters faced.
Relief on the mound for both teams tonight played a large roll in keeping both teams in the game in the later innings. In relief of Fryer in the fifth was P.J Leto, a sophomore from Lurleen B. Wallace Community College. Leto was able to keep the Golden Eagles close by pitching the last five innings, allowing three hits and no runs in his pitching debut. Leto also walked three and K'ed one Pilot in his twenty-one batter outing.
For the Pilots' in the relief role tonight was Andrew Tidwell, a freshman from Saginaw Valley State. Tidwell went three innings allowing two hits and no runs facing a total of eleven batters to earn his first save of the season. Tidwell did not record a strike out or walk.
On the offensive, the Pilots were able to attack Fryer early for six runs over the first four innings. Newark posted four runs in the first inning on three hits. The inning was highlighted by Kyle Attl's (Cal State Northridge) RBI single to drive in leadoff man Luke Swenson (UC Santa Barbara), as well as Michael Bolling's three RBI double to drive in Attl, and teammates Sean Osterman (St. John Fisher) and Chase Brown (UT Dallas). The Pilot's last run would come off the bat of Ray Devalle (Kentucky Wesleyan), when the Junior drove in Swenson with a RBI double in the top of the fourth.
For the Golden Eagles, runs only came in the bottom half of the fourth inning. The inning was started when second basemen, Kyle Ruchim (Northwestern) led off with a double. Ruchim would later score on a RBI single from first basemen and Tacoma Community College sophomore, David Olson. Later on in the inning with one out, Olson would be driven in by Kansas State, Junior, Mike Kindel who reached on a single.
The Golden Eagles would not score another run and end up losing this game six to two. The Golden Eagles fall on the season to 23-13, whereas the Pilot's move to 20-17. Receiving the win tonight was Pilot's pitcher Mike Saunders. Getting the loss was Golden Eagles starter, Neil Fryer.
The season continues tomorrow for both teams. The Glens Falls Golden Eagles (23-13, 10-7) travel to Mohawk Valley to face the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs and the Pilot's (20-17, 10-7) head home to face the Elmira Pioneers.
