Amarillo Bulls News Release
Amarillo, TX - Charlie Glockner's 23 save shutout lifted the Amarillo Bulls to a weekend sweep of the Corpus Christi IceRays with a 2-0 victory on Saturday night.
There was no love lost between the two sides in the early goings of the first period, as the teams delivered a number of hits to opposing players.
The Bulls earned an early powerplay opportunity and would capitalize, quickly, when Devan Tongue wrapped the puck to the back post, sliding it past Corpus Christi's Jeremy Forman for the 1-0 lead.
The second period saw the Bulls grow their lead to 2-0 after Niclas Puikkonen slid a puck to Jordan Venegoni who sniped it past Forman, marking the third time in as many games that he has found the back of the net. Venegoni's cushion would hold for the remainder of the period, and Amarillo would take the two-goal lead into the second intermission.
Corpus Christi would continue to press Bulls goaltender Charlie Glockner who continued to make save after save on a number of prime scoring chance. He would stop all five third period shots he faced, preserving his second shutout on the season.
Lauri Sertti's assist on Tongue's goal would be enough to extend the RPI commit's point streak to three games and bring his weekend point total to three.
The Bulls will travel to Corpus Christi to take on the IceRays in a two-game road stand on Friday and Saturday. Mark Shelley will broadcast the game from the Spicy Mike's Bar-B-Q Broadcast Booth, and the action will begin at 7:05PM CST on 107.1 Nash Icon and Hockey TV.
