Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa - Waterloo Black Hawks goaltender Charlie Glockner has committed to Northern Michigan University, the Hawks announced Wednesday.

The 20-year-old from Minnetonka, Minnesota, is currently spending his first season in Waterloo and has been a workhorse in the Black Hawks' crease. On January 7th, the United States Hockey League selected Glockner as Goaltender of the Week. That honor followed two wins in three starts during the days after Christmas as he stopped 72 of 78 shots he faced.

Glockner's 435 total saves and 986 minutes played this season currently rank fourth and fifth respectively among USHL goalies. He owns six of Waterloo's eight victories with an overall mark of 6-10-1. Glockner's save percentage (.890) is ninth in the USHL, and his goals-against average (3.29) is just outside the league's top ten.

Prior to joining the Black Hawks, Glockner produced an 18-5-4 record for the Amarillo Bulls of the North American Hockey League in 2019/20, including nine shutouts. At the high school level for the Minnetonka, he was 44-7-4 over three seasons, helping the Skippers to the 2018 Class AA State Title.

Northern Michigan's current roster is well-stocked with Waterloo alumni. Current Wildcats who played first in Waterloo include senior Ben Newhouse, junior Garrett Klee, and sophomores Mason Palmer and Hank Sorensen. Additionally, freshman Ian Malcolmson played briefly in Waterloo. Northern Michigan assistant coach Rob Lehtinen spent two years skating for the Hawks as a player, including Head Coach P.K. O'Handley's first season in 2002/03.
