Glens Falls Dragons News Release
Glens Falls, N.Y. Coming off of a milestone win for Glens Falls head coach John Mayotte, the Golden Eagles followed up in style with a 9-2 victory over Albany. The Golden Eagles (15-10) took the lead in the first inning and never looked back and the Dutchmen (11-13) could not recover. Taylor Saucedo evened his record at 2-2 with the victory and Cody Tollinson (Middle Tennessee State) fell to 0-1 with the loss.
Saucedo's pitching was the story tonight as he went six strong innings, allowing just one hit and no runs against. Saucedo amassed six strikeouts over the outing and his offense backed him up as they plated runs in each of the first four innings, and also in the sixth to give the pitcher a 7-0 lead when he exited.
Glens Falls first got on the board in the first inning when a Ross Kivett (Kansas State) sacrifice fly plated Golden Eagles leadoff man Casey Rodrigue (LSU Eunice), who had reached via a single. The Golden Eagles added two more in the second, as Rodrigue's triple scored both Alberto Morales (Clarendon) and Jared Cheek (Georgia Southern).
Albany got their only hit off of Saucedo in the third on a Jon Mestas leadoff single, but the left-hander recovered to not allow a run in the frame. Glens Falls scored another two runs in the third, as Kivett reached on a single, stole second, and advanced to third on a throwing error from Albany catcher Ryan Gasporra (Centenary). Chase Griffin's infield single scored Kivett, and Griffin would eventually come around to score on a wild pitch by Tollinson.
Glens Falls would tack on another run in the fourth inning, as Rodrigue would single and swipe second, before he came around to score on the RBI single from Kivett. The Golden Eagles were held off the board in the fifth, but scored another run in the sixth off of Albany reliever Steve Basile (Iona), as Danny Brennan (St. Louis) came around to score on Griffin's RBI single.
Albany got on the board in the top of the seventh as Zach Remillard (LaSalle Institute) led off with single, before Morgan Phillips (College of Charleston) hit a blast over the left field fence to cut the score to 7-2, off of Glens Falls reliever Wes Judish (San Diego). Glens Falls got both runs back in the bottom half of the inning, as Morales scored an unearned run and Kevin Meyers (Northeastern Oklahoma A&M) came around on an RBI single from Buddy Putnam (South Florida).
Neither team scored in the eighth or ninth, as Glens Falls' Nick Pivetta (New Mexico Junior College) and Albany's Brian Gauthier (Albany) came on to shut the door for their respective teams in final two innings of play.
Glens Falls is next in action tomorrow when they travel to take on the league leading Mohawks. Albany returns home, when they take on Cooperstown. Both games are scheduled to start at 7:05 PM.
