
Glens Falls Routs Saugerties to Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

Glens Falls, N.Y.-The Glens Falls Dragons (23-26) blew open a close 5-4 game with three runs in the fourth and six in the fifth, and went on to a 14-7 victory over the Saugerties Stallions (13-34) in front of the biggest crowd of the year at East Field on "Host Family Appreciation Night." With the win and an Albany Dutchmen loss Glens Falls is now just a half game out of the final playoff spot.
Saugerties scored early to take the 1-0 lead against Glens Falls starter Jake Murray (Rhode Island College). Lead-off hitter Anthony Rocco (Pace University) singled to begin the inning and was sacrificed over to second by a Jesse Uttendorfer (St. Bonaventure) bunt. Micah Riddick (SUNY Ulster) singled to put runners on the corners for the Stallions, and Rocco came into score when Glens Falls threw to second on Riddick's attempted steal of second.
Glens Falls answered with a two out rally against Saugerties starter Matt Wojciak (St. Joseph's College of Maine). Danny Oliveri led off the frame with a solid single to center. After Mark Powell (Bucknell) bunted Oliveri over to second, and a ground out by Rich Guglielmi (Saginaw Valley State), Ryan Hooper (Cal-Davis) doubled over the centerfielder's head to score Oliveri to tie the game at 1-1. Hooper would score on a wild pitch, and Harrison Bragg (Tacoma CC) who had reached base on a walk, would also cross home plate after the Stallions threw down to second on a delayed steal play to make it 3-1. Bryce Aldridge would then add an RBI when he singled to shallow left to plate Donovan Christman to the Dragons the 4-1 edge. Christman had reached on a walk. Matt Flynn (St. Anselm) then doubled to drive Aldridge home to give Glens Falls a four run lead.
The Stallions mounted a rally of their in the third as John Giakis (Fairleigh Dickinson) reached on a fielding error, and Charlie Fina (Ulster CC) doubled just inside the third base bag to score Giakis. Keith Andrews (SUNY Cortland) then singled to move Fina to third, and Fina scored on another Glens Falls error to get Saugerties within 5-3. Uttendorfer added a sacrifice fly to get the Stallions within a run.
The Dragons struck back in the bottom of the fourth, and again they waited until two were out. Two Glens Falls batters walked, and one was hit by Saugerties reliever Justin Emmerling (Henderson State). With the bases loaded Guglielmi scored on a wild pitch, and Aldridge nailed an RBI single to make it 7-4 Glens Falls. Christman would score to make it 8-4 as once again Glens Falls executed a delayed steal.
Glens Falls looked to put this one out of reach in the fifth. Kleinstein led off the inning with a single and Flynn was hit by a pitch. Oliveri then delivered single to drive in Kleinstein to put the Dragons up 8-4. Next, Hooper tripled to deep left field to plate Oliveri and Flynn. Guglielmi, Bragg, and Colby Stratten (Indiana) all added hits in the inning, and the Stallions walked in a run to make it 14-4.
Saugerties picked up a run in the eighth and a pair in the ninth to provide the final margin of victory.
Murray picked up the win for Glens Falls moving his record to. Wojciak suffered the loss for Saugerties.
Hooper, Guglielmi, Aldridge, Kleinstein and Oliveri each registered two hits for Glens Falls. Hooper and Aldridge both drove in two runs, while Flynn added a pair of RBIs.
Riddick, Giakis and Nick Russo (New Haven) both were 2 for 5 for the Stallions, while Andrews chipped in a pair of hits.
Glens Falls travels to Saugerties for a rematch with the Stallions tomorrow night, before returning to East Field Thursday to meet the Albany Dutchmen in the regular season finale with potentially the third and final playoff spot in the PGCBL East on the line.
