Gladiators Weekly Update

Atlanta Gladiators News Release


The Gwinnett Gladiators earned three standings points and a 1-1-0-1 record from October 31st through November 6th. Gwinnett is currently in second place in the ECHL's South Division with 12 points in 10 games this season. The Gladiators are four points behind the first place South Carolina Stingrays.

This Week's Schedule:

Monday, 11/7: Day Off - Bus Leaves for Road Trip at 11 p.m.

Tuesday, 11/8: 12 p.m. Practice in Elmira

Wednesday, 11/9: 11 a.m. Pregame Skate, Game @ Elmira - 7:05 p.m.

Elmira Preview: Gwinnett makes its only trip to Elmira this season on Wednesday. The Jackals are 4-4-0-0 on the season entering this week's action after they snapped a four game losing streak this past Saturday with a 4-2 win against Kalamazoo. Evan Barlow leads the Jackals in scoring with 15 points in eight games.

Friday, 11/11: 11 a.m. Pregame Skate, Game @ Toledo - 7:00 p.m.

Saturday, 11/12: 11 a.m. Pregame Skate, Game @ Toledo - 7:00 p.m.

Toledo Preview: The Walleye knocked off the Gladiators 5-2 on Sunday, November 6th at the Arena at Gwinnett Center in the first of three games against Toledo this season. Sunday's win for Toledo over the Gladiators was the first road win of the season for the Walleye. Evan Rankin's seven points (4g, 3a) leads Toledo in scoring through seven games. Saturday's match up against the Walleye is the last of the season against Toledo.

Sunday, 11/13: Game @ Chicago - 5:05 p.m.

Chicago Preview: The Gladiators make their first of two trips to Chicago to face the Express this season on Sunday. Chicago, an expansion team this season in the ECHL, enters this week with 10 points and a 5-3-0-0 record in eight games. The Express are led in scoring by Blair Riley with 10 points.

Tuesday, November 1: Gwinnett 3, Florida 2 - W

The Gwinnett Gladiators defeated the division rival Florida Everblades 3-2 on Tuesday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Joey Haddad scored unassisted for the game winner late in the third period and Pat Galivan finished with a goal and a assist for Gwinnett in the win.

Saturday, November 5: Reading 3, Gwinnett 2 - SOL

Gwinnett Gladiators dropped a 3-2 shootout decision to the Reading Royals on Saturday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Mike Bartlett scored his first goal for the Gladiators in the second period to tie the game 2-2. Ryan Cruthers for the Royals scored the game winner in the shootout.

Sunday, November 6: Toledo 5, Gwinnett 2 - L

The Gwinnett Gladiators lost to the Toledo Walleye 5-2 Sunday afternoon at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Brad Miller and Shane Sims scored for Gwinnett to give the Gladiators a 2-0 early in the third. Toledo came back with five goals in the final 12 minutes en route to the win.

News & Notes:

Jumping Right In: Forward Mike Bartlett played in his first game with the Gladiators in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Reading Royals. He immediately contributed as he added a goal in the shootout loss last night after he was signed on Friday. The forward began the season in the AHL with the Houston before he was released on November 2nd.

Milestone Reached: Forward Joey Haddad collected another goal in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Reading Royals. It was Haddad's second goal of the season and his 30th career ECHL goal as he entered the season with 28 goals in his ECHL career.

A Helping Hand: Gladiators forward Chris Clackson collected two assists for the Gladiators in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Florida Everblades. For Clackson, it was the first time in his ECHL career that he collected two assists on one game while it was his fifth career multiple point game.

3 for 10: Gladiators defenseman Cody Brookwell finished last season with seven points on the season. He needs three points for 10 in his professional career. Brookwell is scoreless in four games this season with Gwinnett.

Movember: The Gladiators have taken up the Movember cause headed by assistant captain Andy Brandt. The Gladiators are growing moustaches to help raise funds and awareness for men's health and prostate cancer awareness. Three in a Row: Gladiators forward Joey Haddad collected an assist in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Toledo Walleye. His assist pushed his point scoring streak to three straight games (2g, 1a), the longest current ongoing points scoring streak for the Gladiators.

Upcoming Promotions:

Happy Feet Two: On Friday, November 18th, Erik from Happy Feet Two will be making an appearance at the Arena at Gwinnett Center during the Gladiators game against the South Carolina Stingrays. Erik will be on the main concourse of the Arena at Gwinnett Center beginning at 6:30 p.m. when the doors open for fans to get their picture taken with Erik and get his autograph. In addition, Erik will be distributing promotional key chains and temporary tattoos while meeting with fans.

Friendly Friday: The Gladiators next home game, Friday, November 18th is the second Friendly Friday of the 2011-12 season. Fans can get a $20 adult ticket that includes a ticket in section 115, a pizza slice (or hot dog) and a coke or a kids's ticket that includes a ticket in section 115 and a kids meal. To take advantage of the Friendly Friday, ask for it by name at the Arena at Gwinnett Center Box office when purchasing your tickets.

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres and the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
