Express Weekly: Express Collect Two Shootout Wins

Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, played past regulation for the first time in team history, earning shootout wins in back-to-back games against the Cincinnati Cyclones.

EXPRESS 4, Cincinnati 3, SO

The Express fell behind early in the contest, as Cincinnati scored twice in the first and once early in the second to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Chicago battled back as C Aaron Marvin and F Pierre-Luc Faubert both scored in the middle frame to cut the Cyclones lead to 3-2. F Mike Embach scored his first professional goal with 4:46 seconds left in the third period to tie the game, and F Bobby Robins netted the shootout winner as the Express defeated the Cyclones 4-3.

Saturday, November 5

Express 3, CINCINNATI 2, SO

D Dan Henningson scored his first goal as a member of the Chicago Express on a slap shot from the point to give Chicago a 1-0 lead late in the first period. Cincinnati tied it early in the second period, but C Aaron Marvin restored Chicago's lead with his fourth goal of the year less than six minutes later. Cincinnati D Maury Edwards forced the game past regulation with a power play goal late in the third period, but for the second straight night the Express won in a shootout as F Yannick Tifu buried the winner.

Sunday, November 6

KALAMAZOO 7, Express 2

The Wings scored five special teams goals including four power play goals and one shorthanded marker en route to a 7-2 defeat of the Chicago Express. F Kyle Ostrow scored his third goal of the year early in the second period, and C Tyler Johnson picked up his first pro goal in the loss. It was the first time all season the Express have lost a game when being out-shot by their opponent.

Team Notes:

Chicago played their second and third road games of the season last weekend, and their first since going to Toledo for their inaugural game on October 15.The Express have been involved in three home openers this season, earning wins all three times. Chicago beat Toledo 5-1 on October 15 (Toledo's Opening Night), defeated Kalamazoo 4-2 on October 22 (Chicago's Opening Night), and outlasted Cincinnati 3-2 in a shootout on November 5 (Cincinnati's Opening Night).C Tyler Johnson and F Mike Embach each scored their first professional goals over the weekend.The Express had not played a game past regulation until they went into shootouts in back-to-back games against Cincinnati on Friday and Saturday.Prior to Sunday's game, Chicago had played seven games to start the year without surrendering more than three goals in any single game.
