Gladiators to Host Rattlers in Free Pre-Season Scrimmage January 16
December 15, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Las Vegas Gladiators News Release
Las Vegas, NV, December 15, 2005 - The Las Vegas Gladiators will host the Arizona Rattlers in a free, pre-season scrimmage at the Thomas & Mack Center on Monday, January 16, 2006 at 2 p.m. PT. The scrimmage will be open to the public, allowing fans the first opportunity to see the new-look Gladiators in game-action for the 2006 season.
The Gladiators and Rattlers, who both compete in the AFL's Western Division, split last season's two meetings, each winning on the opponent's home turf. The two teams will face each other twice during the 2006 regular season, on March 17 in Las Vegas and on May 6 in Arizona.
The Gladiators will have a new, more physical look on both offense and defense this year. Newcomers Traco Rachal and Antuan Simmons will add speed and size to the defensive secondary to go along side the added strength up front with the additions of Alonzo Spellman and Chukie Nwokorie and Tupe Peko. Offensively, speedster Kevin Prentiss will add to the Gladiators receiving corps, which still features former AFL Offensive Player of the Year Marcus Nash and FB/LB Marlion Jackson.
On the strength of its Mission Statement and Fans' Bill of Rights, the Arena Football League - the second-longest running football league in U.S. history - begins its 20th season in 2006. Often recognized as one of the nation's most affordable and fan-friendly sports leagues, the Arena Football League is America's fastest-growing sport.
The AFL can be seen weekly beginning in January on NBC.
Gladiators will hold a two-day mini camp beginning on January 3 with the first day of full-squad training camp on Thursday, January 5. Both training camp and minicamp will be held at Sam Boyd Stadium and will be open to the public.
The Gladiators open the 2006 campaign on Friday, January 27, 2006, on the road at the Austin Wranglers. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 PM PT and can be heard on ESPN Radio 920 in Las Vegas.
The Gladiators first home game will be a Monday Night Football contest against the San Jose SaberCats, February 6 at the Thomas & Mack Center. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 PM.
