Gladiators Take Down Command, 49-39 in Home Opener

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Gladiators won their 2012 home opener with a 49-39 victory over the Kansas City Command, in front of 6,573 fans at Quicken Loans Arena on Friday night. Cleveland improves to 1-1 while the Command drops to 0-2 on the young season.

Gladiators quarterback John Dutton completed 22-of-40 passes for 170 yards and five touchdowns. His lone interception came in the third quarter.

Dominick Goodman led all receivers with eight catches, for 56 yards and two touchdowns. Thyron Lewis caught two touchdowns, while Robert Redd caught seven passes and two scores. On the ground, Derik Steiner carried the ball six times for eight yards and two touchdowns.

For the Command, Nate Davis threw for 194 yards and five touchdowns on 17-of-42 passing. He was intercepted three times. Cleveland native and Shaw High School graduate Denayne Dixon, Warren G. Harding product Joe Phinisee and fan favorite Levy Brown each intercepted Davis.

The Gladiators travel to Philadelphia on Sunday, April 1 when they take on their division rival Soul. Philadelphia defeated the Pittsburgh Power, 84-59 on NFL Network on Friday night.
