Duke City Gladiators News Release
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Duke City Gladiators are on a mission to keep the winning momentum going. On Saturday evening, the Gladiators are looking to get its second W of the season. The Gladiators (1-3) are looking to take down the Tucson Sugar Skulls (1-2). Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. MST with pre-game festivities starting with a tailgate at 3 p.m. followed by an Egg Hunt at 4 at Rio Rancho Events Center.
"Last Saturday showed our improvement from previous games," said Gladiators' owner Gina Prieskorn-Thomas. "We have made some adjustments this week and are ready to get another victory."
During last year's season, the Sugar Skulls were able to defeat the Gladiators three times with the closest margin 41-40 in early July. Saturday's matchup is the first game between the two teams. The Gladiators travel to Tucson on April 30.
"We are eager to secure our first win against the Sugar Skulls," Prieskorn-Thomas said. "It is going to be a great game and one you don't want to miss."
With star quarterback Nate Davis out for the season, former New Mexico Highlands quarterback Ramone Atkins will lead the men in teal. During last Saturday's game against the Bay Area Panthers, Atkins threw five touchdowns.
"His performance is coming together," Prieskorn-Thomas said. "He is a dual threat - he can pass, and he can run. He is a great addition to the team."
Also returning to the field for Saturday's game is La Cueva graduate Ronnie Daniels. Last weekend, Daniels who holds numerous state records, made his professional debut.
"It is great to see Ronnie back on the field," Prieskorn-Thomas said. "Expect him to make big moves this season."
Following this Saturday's game, the Gladiators head on the road for several weeks. They return to the Rio Rancho Events Center on May 28 for a matchup against the San Diego Strike Force.
Gladiators' games are streamed online on the Indoor Football Team channel on YouTube and on KRQE.
Kids 10 and younger are admitted free to the game. Tickets available at dukecitygladiators.com.
