Duke City Gladiators News Release

Allen, T.X. - The Duke City Gladiators (4-4) came to Allen, Texas looking for revenge after last Saturday's loss to the Texas Revolution (7-1). Unfortunately the result didn't reflect the mission. The Gladiators fell to the Revolution by a score of 56-34.

Duke City was on a mission to play hard for quarterback Bryan Randall as he had a season ending injury with a broken arm in last Saturday's meeting with the Revolution. Tonight the focus was winning one for him. The match looked as if both defenses were going be the determining factor as the first score of the game was by the Revolution with only 3:35 remaining in the 1st quarter.

As the second quarter rolled in, it only took 1:03 for Texas to add another touchdown to the scoreboard as they went up 14-0. It was a slow start for the Gladiator offense as they finally scored on a 10 yard pass from quarterback Taylor Genuser to receiver Sedrick Johnson. Getting the score back to even and a "new game" was on the mind as receiver Dello Davis Grabbed a huge 35 yard touchdown reception to even the score at 14-14. Texas remained in control as they accounted for scoring 14 unanswered points to round out the half at 28-14.

The Gladiators came out of halftime feeling as they had regrouped. Both defenses kept the opposing offenses at bay as the Gladiators continued to press. Unfortunately, that didn't translate as Texas had the only touchdown of the quarter on a 1-yard run by Darius Fudge.

It became a score fest in the 4th quarter as there were a total of 6 touchdowns between both teams. With 8:40 remaining, Texas' Williams rushed for 2 yards and punched it in. About four minutes later, the Revolution just seemed as if they were never letting the foot off the gas as they scored again on a pass to make the score 49-14.

With life still present on the Gladiator sideline, Dello Davis wasn't going down without a fight as he returned the kickoff 50 yards for a touchdown. With lightning speed, Davis added two more to bring his grand total to 22 touchdowns on the season.

As the Revolution offense pressed, a great read by defensive back Brashard Booker resulted in a 22 yard pick-six and the Gladiators were closing the gap with a score of 49-28 and 4:05 remaining in the game. There was plenty of time as Duke City set up for an onside kick in which the Gladiators couldn't recover as a Revolution player batted the ball out of play.

A turnover on downs would give the Revolution the opportunity to score and continue to expand on their lead to 56-28 with 1:34 left. The Gladiators started their drive and were successful as 4 plays and 38 yards later, a 5 yard touchdown reception by Sedrick Johnson ensued to make the score 56-34. Duke City's Cody Nuzzo attempted another onside kick. With a series of penalties and re-kicks, the Gladiators recovered on their last attempt and tried to keep their momentum alive as the clock showed just 32 seconds left. An interception thrown by quarterback Taylor Genuser left the game to end right there.
