Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The Gwinnett Gladiators have agreed to terms with forwards Drew Akins and Jean Philipp Chabot for the 2010-2011 season.

Akins skated in three games for the Gladiators last season after he completed his senior season at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He did not record a point with Gwinnett but collected 7 penalty minutes in his stint with the Gladiators.

In four collegiate seasons with the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Akins recorded 51 points (21g, 30a) in 153 career collegiate games. The Excelsior, Minnesota, native served as team captain for Minnesota-Duluth in his senior season last year.

Chabot played last season with the Charlotte Checkers and notched 25 points (8g, 17a) in 58 games in the ECHL. He ranked fourth in scoring among Checkers rookies last season.

The 6-foot-1, 190 pound forward played five seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and split time between the Gatineau Olympiques and the Moncton Wildcats. Chabot helped lead his team to the QMJHL Presidents Cup Championship two times - with Moncton in 2006 and Gatineau in 2008.

The Gwinnett Gladiators open the 2010-11 season on the road before returning home to host the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday, October 22nd at 7:35 p.m. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
