Giveaways highlight busy PrairieThunder weekend

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Many activities are planned surrounding the beginning of a six-game home stand for the Bloomington PrairieThunder hockey team this weekend at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. The PrairieThunder meets Flint on Friday and Quad City on Saturday. Both games begin at 7:05 p.m. with doors opening one hour prior.

The first 2,500 fans at Friday's game will receive a multi-purpose yowie, compliments of OSF St. Joseph Medical Center. The yowie is a piece of cloth highlighted with the PrairieThunder logo that can be used as rally towel, bandana, wristband, head wrap, scarf, face mask, scull cap, hair band and much more. It keeps you warm in the cold and cool in the heat.

The first 1,000 fans at Saturday's game will receive a water bottle, compliments of Champion Fitness. Saturday also is the annual Guns n' Hoses game, pitting members of the Bloomington police department against their counterparts at the Bloomington fire department.

The game, which begins at 3 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum, benefits the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois. It's also part of a fundraising night with the Bloomington PrairieThunder hockey team.

PrairieThunder players also will be wearing special jerseys featuring the Guns n' Hoses, Torch Run and Special Olympics logos in their game against Quad City. The jerseys will be auctioned off following the game with all net proceeds going to the Torch Run's fundraising efforts for Special Olympics Illinois.

A ticket to the PrairieThunder game will include admission to the Guns n' Hoses event and can be purchased at the Bloomington Police Department, 305 S. East St., Bloomington, any Bloomington Fire Department location or Special Olympics Illinois office, 605 E. Willow St., Normal, along with the U.S. Cellular Coliseum box office.

In addition, the PrairieThunder will donate a portion of each $12 ticket sold to Special Olympics Illinois. For more information, call Officer Todd Keil at 309-434-2700, or Special Olympics Illinois at 309-888-2551, and mention Guns n' Hoses.

Also, the 'Beat the Hunger' and 'Beat the Cold' campaigns involving the PrairieThunder, Salvation Army and Home Sweet Home Ministries continues.

Christmas trees, decorated with ornaments of PrairieThunder players, will grace the concourse level. On the reverse side of the ornament, items (such as canned food goods, paper products, baby food and supplies, etc.) that fans can purchase and donate to the Salvation Army and Home Sweet Home Ministries will be listed.

A collection will be taken at the entrance of the game of coats, hats, mittens and scarves for children and adults as well as men's clothing and canned goods. For each items donated at PrairieThunder games through Saturday will receive one entry into the drawing for an autographed PrairieThunder team picture and hockey stick.
