Icehawks Score Four In A Row To Top Komets 4-2

FORT WAYNE, IN - The Port Huron Icehawks recovered from an early two goal deficit and scored four unanswered goals on Wednesday to top the Fort Wayne Komets 4-2 at Memorial Coliseum. With the win, the Icehawks take sole possession of second place in the International Hockey League standings, and leave the Komets two points behind in third place.

Goaltender Larry Sterling made 40 saves and Icehawks newcomer Brandon Naurato notched two goals and an assist to lead the Icehawks to victory. Icehawks special teams also had a big night, killing off seven penalties to leave the Komets scoreless on the power play.

The Komets took an early lead with a pair of goals in the first 13 minutes of play. The Icehawks cut the score to 2-1 when Tab Lardner scored on the power play at 15:42. He was assisted by Nick Lindberg and Naurato. The Komets outshot the Icehawks 15-14 in the frame.

Fort Wayne outshot Port Huron 12-6 in the second period, but it was the Icehawks who found the back of the net and scored twice more. Mickael Bedard netted an unassisted goal at 9:34 to tie the game. Under six minutes later, the Icehawks took the lead when Naurato beat goalie Tim Haun for his first goal of the night. He was assisted by Kerry Bowman and Adam Maccarone.

Naurato landed his second goal of the game on an assist from Derek Patrosso just 1:39 into the third period to boost the score to 4-2. Sterling took over from there, turning aside 15 third period shots to earn the win. The Komets outshot the Icehawks 15-3 in the period and 42-23 overall.

Tonight's game wrapped up a six game road trip for Port Huron. They return home to play the first place Muskegon Lumberjacks on Friday and host a rematch with the Komets on Saturday. Their busy schedule continues with a trip to Muskegon on Sunday.

Game Notes: The Icehawks were without forwards Mike Kinnie, Kris Vernarsky and Jason Kostadine due to injury and also defenseman Ian Turner who was placed on the 30-Day Injured Reserve List on Monday. Rob Cowan returned to the lineup, however, and played in his first game since October 25.
