Memphis Xplorers News Release
SOUTHAVEN --- Fans are always guaranteed a fast, exciting and hard hitting game when the Memphis Xplorers take the field at the DeSoto Civic Center. But, this Saturday, fans are also going to be treated to a multitude of events, giveaways and freebies that will be sure to make it the event of the season. The Xplorers will be trying to improve to 9-2 on the season as they host the Birmingham Steeldogs at 7:05.
The events will begin with the Sam's Town Casino/Southern Thunder Harley-Davidson Tailgate and the ABATE of Mississippi-Northwest Chapter Bike Rally.
To start the Bike Rally, area bikers are encouraged to meet at Southern Thunder Harley-Davidson, 6935 Windchase Drive in Horn Lake, MS, between 2:30 and 3 pm. From there, the riders will be escorted to the DCC for the Rally and Tailgate by the DeSoto County Sheriffs Department Motor Corp at 4 pm. A helicopter will also provide an aerial escort.
The Tail Gate Party will run from four to six. Sam's Town Hotel and Casino in Tunica will be cooking and serving free hamburgers, hotdogs and chips in the north parking lot of the DCC. Southern Thunder Harley-Davidson is sponsoring a live radio remote by Drake and Zeke from 98-1 The Max. Admission for the tailgating event is free.
For the game, fans might also want to bring a wheelbarrow with them to carry all of the free giveaways that will be handed out as they walk through the doors Saturday night.
The first 500 fans 12 and under will receive a youth Xplorers replica jersey sponsored by First Tennessee. The first 1,000 fans will get a miniature American Flag. The first 1,500 fans 21 and older will get a Miller Lite Can Koozie. Plus, ADT will be handing out their CheerStix to all fans at the door.
The game has been proclaimed "Support Our Troops Night" and that is the main theme of the evening. The Northwest Mississippi Association of Realtors has formed the DeSoto County Military Emergency Relief Fund. There are a couple of ways that fans can support this cause at the game.
Fans can purchase special $15 tickets (normally $16) for the game with $6 of that going to the Fund to help the troops and their families. Call the Xplorers office at 662-342-1775 to specify that you want to purchase the special fundraising tickets. The fundraising tickets will also be available for purchase during the Tailgate Party and Bike Rally in the DCC parking lot.
The Xplorers players will be getting involved as well. The team will be wearing special "Support Our Troops" jerseys sponsored by Sam's Town Hotel and Casino in Tunica during the game . The jerseys will then be sold to fans via a live auction following the game with a portion of the proceeds going to the Military Emergency Relief Fund.
The Xplorers organization is planning a special tribute to local Troop 1687 Transportation Company of Southaven as they prepare for deployment to Iraq. The army will also be swearing in new recruits during a special halftime ceremony.
On top of all of this, the Xplorers, ABC 24 and Memphis area Giant TV stores will be giving away a big screen TV at halftime. People can register to win the television and Xplorers tickets at the four Memphis area Giant TV locations. Finalists for the TV giveaway will take part in a halftime passing contest to decide the winner.
The featured non-profit of the night, Hernando-DeSoto Habitat for Humanity, will be on hand raising funds for their cause through ticket sales and the "fling-a-football" halftime contest. Habitat will also have an information table on the concourse.
Again, for more information about purchasing the special fundraising tickets or for general info about the "Support Our Troops" events, call the Xplorers' office at 662-342-1755.
