February 19, 2009 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Plymouth Whalers News Release

The Whalers are teaming up with The American Red Cross in holding a blood drive on Fri. Mar. 6 from 11am-5pm at Compuware Arena. Fans signing up through our donor site at www.plymouthwhalers.com/blooddrive.html will receive two free tickets to the Whalers-Windsor game that evening. Please see the attached poster.

Fans will get a chance to meet Whaler alums Jared Boll and Gino Pisellini.

Boll played with the Whalers from 2005-07 and was a major contributor to the Whalers' Championship Team in 2006-07. Boll - now with the National Hockey League's Columbus Blue Jackets - led the National Hockey League in fighting majors last season and is second in the league so far this year with 17, one behind league-leader Zack Stortini of Edmonton (who played in the OHL with the Sudbury Wolves). Pisellini played with the Whalers from 2003-06 at is currently third on the Whalers' all-time list with 545 PIM's. Injuries cut short his promising pro career.

Tom Reed of the Columbus Dispatch recently featured Boll in a Five Questions Feature:

Q: Is it true you were never in a fight before midget hockey?

A: Yep. Never any fistfights in school or anything. Maybe some words angry exchanged, but that's about it. I don't think there is any purpose in those kind of fights.

Q: What do you recall about your first fight?

A: Not much. I was so scared I don't really remember it. I had never been in a fight before. Now, it's just part of the business. Once I go on the ice, I'm a totally different person. People around me can't believe I can flip that switch. My mother and my girlfriend can't believe I fight.

Q: What does your mother think about that part of your game?

A: She won't watch it. She never misses a game, but she won't watch me fight. She won't walk out of a room, she'll just bury her head. She doesn't want to see me get hurt.

Q: As long as you don't get hurt, do you care who wins a fight? Do you keep track of your wins and losses?

A: No. You go into this knowing you are not going to win every fight. The main thing is standing up for your teammates or trying to create momentum for your team. That's what the guys care about. If you lose, you lose.

Q: Do you have a favorite fight?

A: The (Jordin) Tootoo fight at the end of last season. That's one that I know the fans wanted badly after what had happened in the previous game. That was one where I had to step up for my teammates.
