
Giusti Homers in LumberKings' Loss to Illinois Valley

CLINTON, Iowa.- The Clinton LumberKings opened a six-game home stand with a 8-4 loss to the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp.
Illinois Valley jumped out to an early lead in the first. Evan Evola (Webster University) doubled in a run to make it 1-0. Later, Cole Luckey (Bradley University) singled in another run to make it 2-0 after the top of the first.
The LumberKings' entered the run column in the fifth when Rayth Petersen (University of Illinois Chicago) scored on an error.
The Pistol Shrimp added to their lead in the sixth, eighth and ninth.
Trailing 8-1 in the ninth, Connor Giusti (UW-Oshkosh) clobbered his third home run of the season, a three run homer. The late offense wasn't enough, Clinton dropped the game 8-4 and remain 4.5 games behind the Normal CornBelters.
Logan Romasanta (Union College) suffered the loss in a start and Jason Shanner (North Central College) picked up the win. Shanner went 7.2 innings for the Pistol Shrimp, striking out nine batters, allowing one unearned run and just two hits.
Clinton's next game will be tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. against the Burlington Bees.
It's a Copa Day at NelsonCorp Field, the 35th Anniversary of the Victory Center and Sterling-Rock Falls Day.
