Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - Fresh off of a successful two-game weekend in Baie-Comeau, the Lewiston MAINEiacs returned home to take on the Shawinigan Cataractes. Unfortunately for Lewiston, the Cataractes had similar success on the road, blanking the MAINEiacs 6-0 in front of 1,867 fans at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

Shawinigan netted the first goal of the game at the 13:42 mark of the opening stanza. The puck took an awkward bounce over Dillon Fournier's stick, sending Loik Poudrier the other way on a breakaway. Poudrier kept the puck on his forehand, lifting a shot high over the glove of Andrey Makarov.

The score stayed that way until the midway mark of the second period. Michael Bournival intercepted a clearing attempt at the blueline, and tossed a shot in toward the net that got tipped in by Benjamin Casavant. The Cataractes added two more goals in the period. The first came off of the stick of former MAINEiac Jean-Francois Plante, who finished off a one-time feed by Bournival. Dave Labrecque scored the second off of an odd bounce off of the back glass.

The visitors added two tallies in the third, including the second of the game by Plante, as Shawinigan cruised to the 6-0 win.

Gabriel Girard got the shutout, stopping all 31 shots he faced for the Cataractes. Makarov took the loss for Lewiston, allowing six goals on 37 shots.

The MAINEiacs will now head on the road for four games in nine games, beginning with a weekend series against the Gatineau Olympiques. Friday's game begins at 7:30, and Saturday's game starts at 4:00. Lewiston returns home on November 3rd for a 7:00 face-off against the Quebec Remparts.
