Evansville IceMen News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN.--- Having attained their best month-ever in CHL franchise history, the first place Evansville IceMen are deriving some outstanding benefits from their majestic January record of 13(10-1-2) and brilliant .846 winning percentage.
On this date, the Central Hockey League, in conjunction with the IceMen organization, has announced that goaltender BRYAN GILLIS has been acclaimed CHL GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH for the month of January. This is his second league-wide award for this week alone. Earlier in the week, Gillis was acclaimed 50/50 CENTRAL / CHL ROOKIE OF THE MONTH for the month of January 2012.
GILLIS, 23, is enjoying an extraordinary first-year pro season, emerging as one of the premiere, top-flight goaltenders in the CHL. In the recently completed January schedule, the 6-0, 170lb human puck detour was in goal for all 10 of his first place team's victories, posting an impeccably perfect record of 10(10-0-0). In those 10-winning starts, he yielded a meager 12-GA, earning back-to-back shutouts in amassing an amazing 175-consecutive shutout minutes in the process. Gillis GAA for the month was a miserly, microscopic 1.19 and his SPCT was a masterful .962.
For the season, the Halifax, NS product has soared to second best in the CHL in overall goaltending prowess with an ever-evaporating 2.28 GAA and gaudy .928 SPCT along with those 2-shutouts. His season record of 21(17-3-1) and .833 personal win percentage are the best in the league while those 17-victories rank as third most in the league among his counterpart goaltenders. "The Great Gilly in Goal" has been equally excellent both at home and on the road. His home mark stands at 13(10-2-1) while road record is a scintillating 8(7-1-0) for the entire campaign at this juncture of the 2011-12 CHL season.
This is the fourth time in as many weeks that Gillis has attained CHL league-wide accolades and kudos. Twice, earlier in January, he was named Oakley / CHL Goaltender of the Week preceding his two league-wide awards for this current week.
Gillis and his Turner Conference front-running IceMen return to league action this weekend with a pair of home appearances at the Ford Center this Friday and Saturday nights at 7:15 pm as they collide with intra-conference foe Rapid City in a two-game series. Friday night has been designated "All Faiths Night;" Saturday night the world famous "Sponge Bob Square Pants" will be here to entertain Evansville.
