Gibson's Finest CFL Players of the Week Named

Toronto, ON - (October 19, 2010) - Daniel Porter, Stevie Baggs, Derek Schiavone and Chris Getzlaf were named the Gibson's Finest CFL Players of the Week for week 16, the Canadian Football League announced today.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Gibson's Finest CFL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

RB - Daniel Porter - Edmonton Eskimos

Edmonton Eskimos 31 @ B.C. Lions 28 (OT)

Highlights / Key Stats:

Edmonton running back Daniel Porter made quite the impact in just his third career CFL game, leading his club to a 31-28 overtime victory against the Lions. Porter finished the contest with 21 carries for 171 yards rushing, including a long of 25 yards in overtime to help set up Ricky Ray's game-winning touchdown.

The rookie added one reception for 11 yards, totaling 182 yards from scrimmage in the winning effort.

DE - Stevie Baggs - Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Hamilton Tiger-Cats 30 @ Toronto Argonauts 3

Highlights / Key Stats:

Stevie Baggs provided a number of big plays and big hits on defence for the Tiger-Cats in their dominating 30-3 win over the rival Toronto Argonauts this past weekend. The first-year Ticat racked up seven tackles, two quarterback sacks for a team loss of 17 yards and two tackles-for-loss in the winning effort.

K/P - Derek Schiavone - Edmonton Eskimos

Edmonton Eskimos 31 @ B.C. Lions 28 (OT)

Highlights / Key Stats:

Derek Schiavone made the most of his promotion as Edmonton's starting kicker by recording 11 points in their 31-28 overtime triumph against the B.C. Lions. Schiavone was a perfect three-for-three in field goals, connecting on a pair of 45 yarders and adding another from 17 yards out.

The third-year Eskimo also tallied 177 yards on five punts and added two extra point converts in the win.

Gibson's Finest CFL CANADIAN PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SB - Chris Getzlaf - Saskatchewan Roughriders

Calgary Stampeders 34 @ Saskatchewan Roughriders 26

Highlights / Key Stats:

Chris Getzlaf was a bright spot for the Roughriders on offence in a hard fought 34-26 loss to the Stampeders this week. The Riders slotback had five receptions for a career-high 201 yards and tied another career best with two touchdowns to earn the weekly honour. His performance was highlighted by a 64-yard TD reception from Darian Durant in the fourth quarter, as well as, a career-long 86-yard reception earlier in the game.

The Regina native is currently in his fourth CFL season, third as a member of the Riders.
