New Jersey Jackals News Release
Down 1-0, the Jackals responded with nine straight, topping the American Association's St. Paul Saints 9-2.
On a cloudy Wednesday morning at Yogi Berra Stadium, Jackals starter Jon Kibler allowed only one run on four hits, exiting after the sixth inning to a dugout of congratulations. He improves to 3-0.
A Chris Henderson single and an Angel Berroa sacrifice fly in the third put the Jackals on top 2-1.
Berroa came into today's game 0-18 this season at Yogi Berra Stadium, but responded with a three-run home run over the scoreboard in left center in the fourth. The Jackals scored six that inning, coupled with a Steve Caseres RBI single and Nick Giarraputo's two-run home run to take an 8-1 lead.
Giarraputo and Berroa exit today's game in the same position they found themselves in before it - tied for the team lead in home runs. They now have six a piece.
Saints starter Anthony Claggett gets the loss in his first start with St. Paul. The former New York Yankees reliever was acquired earlier today from the Somerset Patriots after the Dodgers purchased Wes Roemer's contract. Claggett pitched 3.1 innings, giving up six runs on six hits.
With the win, the Jackals improve to 12-7, keeping hold of their first place lead over Quebec, who they play this weekend in Canada.
Tomorrow, Jackals' Kyle Greenwalt (1-1, 4.60 ERA) goes against Danny Gutierrez (0-0 3.38 ERA) in the final game of this four-game series. First pitch is 7:05ET from Yogi Berra Field in Little Falls.
The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
