Can-Am League Game Recaps
June 6, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
New Jersey 9, St. Paul 2
Three home runs by New Jersey in the fourth and fifth innings bloated the score against interleague opponent St. Paul, as the Jackals went on to win, 9-2. Already up 2-1 heading into the fourth, New Jersey got a two-run home run by Nick Giarraputo, an RBI double by Steve Caseres and a three-run home run by Angel Berroa. Francisco Caraballo added a solo home run of his own the next inning to help put the game away. St. Paul was victimized by walks, as a base on balls preceded each run-scoring hit during the fourth.
On the mound, the Jackals were led by lefty Jon Kibler who picked up his third win of the season. The Saints managed just one run on four hits off Kibler through six innings. Amid St. Paul's struggles, however, RF Jose Hernandez extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Hernandez was joined offensively by 1B Ole Sheldon, as both went 2-for-4.
Rockland 14, Newark 1
Boulders 3B Ryan Mollica put on an offensive performance that Rockland will remember and the Bears will wish they could forget. The Player of the Week in late May, Mollica hit a home run and accounted for nearly half of Rockland's 14 runs with six RBI. In total, the left-handed hitting third baseman went 3-for-5 in a 14-1 rout.
Rockland began to pull away in the fourth when the Boulders scored five runs off two home runs. LF Jon Smith delivered a two run shot, quickly followed by Mollica's three-run home run. The Boulders chipped in three more runs the next inning to give RHP Dan Jurik a comfortable cushion. Jurik threw five scoreless innings to earn his first win of the year.
In addition to Mollica, two other Boulders had three-hit games. 2B Cole Kraft and SS Matt Nandin each went 3-for-6 and two other Boulders had two-hit games. Everyone in Rockland's lineup had at least one base-hit and one run scored in the win.
