Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(SAN JOSE, CA) - The San Jose Giants did not slug the ball all over Municipal Stadium against the JetHawks Thursday night, but they found enough gaps to get 13 hits. Six of those hits came in the first inning, along with five runs, as the Giants took game one of a three-game series 8-3.
Lancaster took a one-run lead in the first inning when Emilio Bonifacio singled, stole second base, and advanced on a pair of ground outs. However, San Jose used two infield hits and two bloopers off Kellen Raab in the bottom of the first to take a 5-1 lead.
Jonathan Valverde and Matt Fowles, JetHawks relievers who have struggled in their last few outings, were both very sharp in relief. Valverde pitched two and one-third scoreless innings while Matt Fowles pitched one perfect inning.
The road trip continues Friday night in San Jose. Esmerling Vasquez (1-2) starts for Lancaster against Ricky Bauer (0-0). The game is scheduled to start at 7:05, with the radio broadcast kicking off at 6:50 on Magic 1340 and online at www.jethawks.com.
The JetHawks return home Friday, June 30 for a four game homestand against the Bakersfield Blaze, including the JetHawks Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks Spectacular on Monday, July 3. Individual game tickets, season tickets, and mini-plan packages are available at the JetHawks box office, by phone at 661-726-5400, as well as at www.jethawks.com.
