Giants' Miner Named Eli Wilson Goaltending WHL Goaltender of the Week

Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Vancouver Giants goaltender Trent Miner has been named the Eli Wilson Goaltending WHL Goaltender of the Week and league nominee for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 21, 2018.

Miner posted a 1-0-1-0 record, a 1.48 goals-against-average, and stopped 59 of 62 shots for a 0.952 save percentage as the Giants rebounded from a Friday night loss to claim three of four points on Saturday and Sunday.

Completing a home-and-home against the Portland Winterhawks Saturday at the Langley Events Centre, Miner stopped 31 of 33 shots in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Winterhawks. Miner allowed a goal in the first period, then silenced the Winterhawks in the second and third periods before allowing the single goal in overtime. For his efforts, Miner was named the first star of the game.

Sunday, the Giants secured their first win of the weekend in a 3-1 result against the visiting Kelowna Rockets. Miner stopped 28 of 29 shots in the contest, holding the Rockets off the board until the third period. For his performance, Miner was named the second star of the game.

The 6-foot-1, 179-pound product of Brandon, Man. is eligible for the 2019 NHL Draft. Originally selected by the Giants in first round, 20th overall, of the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft, Miner has appeared in four games with the Giants this season, recording a 3-0-1-0 record, 1.24 GAA, 0.958 SV% and one shutouts. In 13 career games with the Giants, Miners is sporting a 6-4-1-0 record, 3.18 GAA, 0.907 SV% and one shutout. His figures have him leading the WHL in both GAA and SV% while his one shutout is tied for the league lead.

Miner has also appeared in three games during the 2018 WHL Playoffs, sporting a 1-2 record, 3.41 GAA and a 0.901 SV%. His WHL playoff debut, which came against the Victoria Royals on March 23, 2018, saw Miner stop 40 of 41 shots to earn the victory.

The Giants return to action Saturday, October 28 (7:00 p.m. PT) when they continue their eight-game homestand against the Seattle Thunderbirds.
