San Jose Giants News Release

Ben Snyder and two relievers combined on a five-hitter in San Jose's 6-1 victory over the Visalia Oaks on Sunday afternoon at Recreation Park to complete a four-game series sweep. Snyder fired six effective innings yielding just one run and three hits to earn the win. The Giants scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead and never trailed en route to picking up their ninth win in their last 10 games. With the victory, San Jose improved their record to 13-5.

Snyder, who retired 18 of the 21 hitters he faced, struck out six and walked none. The left-hander improved his record to 2-0 and now boasts a spectacular 0.78 ERA.

Tyler Graham (2-for-4, 2 SB) and Mike McBryde (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) led a seven-hit offensive attack for the Giants. Graham finished the four-game series a perfect 9-for-9 in stolen base attempts.

Graham started the first inning rally with a one-out single before stealing second base. After Ryan Rohlinger drew a walk, both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Pablo Sandoval followed by reaching on a throwing error committed by third baseman Richardo Sosa to plate Graham with the first run of the afternoon. Brett Pill then lifted a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Rohlinger for a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth, Sandoval led off with a pop-up on the infield that was dropped by first baseman Steve Mena for an error. With one out, Elio Sarmiento lined a double to the fence in right center field easily scoring Sandoval extending the Giants advantage to 3-0. Consecutive wild pitches from Romero scored Sarmiento before Dom Duggan restarted the rally with a two-out double down the left field line. Cody Evans was then summoned from the bullpen and he promptly allowed an RBI single to McBryde to make the score 5-0.

Visalia's lone run of the contest came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Gerardo Parra launched a solo homer to deep right field.

San Jose capped the scoring in the top of the seventh inning when Graham led off with a single, stole second base, advanced to third on an error, and scored on Rohlinger's sacrifice fly.

Wilmin Rodriguez relieved Snyder to begin the bottom of the seventh inning and worked a perfect frame. However in the eighth, Manny Ferrer doubled with one out before consecutive walks loaded the bases. Dan Griffin was then brought into pitch and with the potential tying run in the on-deck circle, induced Pedro Ciriaco to bounce into a routine 6-3 double play to end the inning.

Griffin worked through a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth to keep the Oaks off the scoreboard and seal the victory. Griffin (1 2/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 SO) was credited with his first save of the season.
