San Jose Giants News Release
The San Jose Giants won their 93rd game of the season to set a team record in an 11-0 victory over the Lake Elsinore Storm on Monday afternoon at The Diamond. In their regular season finale, San Jose scored 11 runs on 19 hits for the second consecutive game while also recording their league-leading 13th shutout of the year. The Giants conclude the season with a 93-47 overall record and a 51-19 mark in the second half.
Thomas Neal (4-for-6, RBI) led the San Jose offensive attack as every Giants starter recorded at least one hit in the contest. Shane Jordan (3-for-4, RBI) added three hits while Conor Gillaspie (2-for-5, 4 RBI) drove home four runs for the second straight game.
Paul Oseguera (7-7) was credited with the victory on the mound after tossing six scoreless innings with only two hits allowed. The left-hander struck out four and walked none while retiring 16 out of the 19 batters that he faced.
San Jose took early control of the game with six runs in the top of third inning against Storm starting pitcher Aaron Breit. Ryan Lormand began the frame with a triple down the left field line before Jordan lined an RBI single into right to put the Giants ahead by a 1-0 score. On the play, Jordan was thrown out at second attempting to stretch the hit into a double, but the next batter, Tyler Graham, restarted the rally with a single. After Nick Noonan walked to put runners on first and second, Neal struck out swinging for the second out of the inning. Gillaspie then grounded a single into right plating Graham before Nestor Rojas clubbed a two-run double to deep left field to make it 4-0. C.J. Ziegler followed with an RBI single and then two batters later, Lormand delivered an RBI double to score the sixth and final run of the inning.
San Jose added to their lead in the top of the fourth when Graham led off with a single before scoring on Gillaspie's ground out to second.
In the sixth, Noonan and Neal started the inning with back-to-back singles to put runners on first and third. Noonan then scored when Gillaspie grounded out before Neal came home on Ziegler's sacrifice fly to left.
The Giants scored two more runs in the top of the seventh on back-to-back two-out RBI singles from Neal and Gillaspie to make it 11-0.
Oseguera began his outing by retiring nine consecutive Lake Elsinore hitters as the San Jose starter did not allow his first baserunner until Danny Payne led off the bottom of the fourth with a single. Payne though was immediately erased when the next batter, Keoni Ruth, grounded into a double play. Oseguera then worked a perfect bottom of the fifth before pitching around a one-out single in the sixth.
Ryan Shaver (1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO), Trey Webb (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 SO) and Rafael Cova (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 SO) each pitched a scoreless inning of relief out of the Giants bullpen to preserve the shutout.
Graham (2-for-5, SB), Rojas (2-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI), Ziegler (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Lormand (2-for-5, 2B, 3B, RBI) also produced two hits each for San Jose.
