Georgia Force News Release

The Georgia Force upped their record to a franchise best 3-1 to start to a season with a 38-13 victory over the Las Vegas Gladiators. The 13 points allowed by the Georgia defense set a team record for least points allowed in a game (previous 19 at Carolina 4/18/03). On the night, the Force defense created five turnovers and two turnovers on downs on the Gladiators.

Both teams established a new AFL record for most penalties in a game with 34 (14 Georgia , 20 Las Vegas) smashing the previous mark of 21.

Georgia was lead by WR/LB Derek Lee and OS Troy Bergeron, who combined for five receiving touchdowns. Lee finished with 8 receptions for 100 yards and Bergeron 9 catches for 47 yards. Las Vegas was paced by Coco Blaylock with two receiving scores and 63 yards receiving on 5 catches.

Georgia took a two possession lead of 28-13 into the half, but the tone through the first two quarters of play was set by the Force defense not the offense. Starting with Las Vegas ' first drive that ended with Georgia forcing a fumble on the goal line to Force DS Kevin Gaines' interception in the end zone as time expired in the half, the defense created the opportunities on the other side of the ball. Georgia QB Jim Kubiak connected with Bergeron on three touchdown passes in the first half of 3, 14 and 3-yards respectively. Kubiak added a 27-yard strike to Lee with 37 seconds left to push the Georgia lead to 15 points. Both of the Gladiators scores came on touchdown passes from Rod Robinson to Coco Blaylock from 14 and 24-yards out.

The third quarter opened too much of the same with Georgia outscoring Las Vegas 10-0 in the period and the defense creating turnovers with Gaines hauling in his career-high tying third interception of the contest. Through four games in the 2005 season, the Gladiators have yet to score a point in the third quarter. The Force's points came on a Kubiak to Lee touchdown and a 19-yard field goal by Nelson Garner. Both teams were held scoreless in the fourth quarter with fumbles inside the five-yard lines recovered by the defenses for both teams and a Kukiak interception.
