Georgia Force News Release
FLOWERY BRANCH, GA- The Georgia Force began defense of their 2007 Southern Division Championship today as they stepped on the field for the first time in 2008.
The Force took the field at 8:30 a.m. for their first practice of training camp in preparation for the 2008 season, which begins March 1 vs. Dallas on ABC. First year WR/LB & Special Teams coach, Dialleo Burks, began training camp with a spirited special teams session before the team moved onto position drills. Following a competitive three-on-three period, the offensive and defensive units combined for the team portion of practice. The offense was steady as QB Chris Greisen connected with WR Carl Morris for one touchdown and both QB Tom Arth and QB Ben Dougherty threw touchdown passes. The defensive effort was solid as DE R-Kal Truluck, DE Will Thompson and LB Eric Johnson applied pressure to the quarterback. DB Stephen Cason forced Morris to fumble on the goal line and later collided with FB/LB Frank Trentadue on the goal line to prevent a touchdown.
In the afternoon, the offense seemed to pick up the pace in the beginning, but the defense finished the period strong. Greisen connected with Trentadue on a screen pass for a touchdown early on in the team portion of practice. Later in the session, WR Kyle Smith hauled in a one handed catch in the back of the endzone that was delivered from the arm of Dougherty. Rookie WR Chris Baker leaped in the air for a touchdown reception in the corner of the endzone later on and rookie WR Chad Cone added one score on the ground. The defense was highlighted by a pass break-up by rookie DB Damian Daniels and a forced fumble on the goal line by Truluck, which was recovered by the defense.
"It was great to see this group of guys on the field today," said Head Coach Doug Plank. "We started a little slow, but as the practice wore on we seemed to gain momentum and that is what we are looking for. This is a long season and this is only the first practice of many. I believe the team will come out more focused tomorrow and will have a better understanding of what we are asking them to do."
Friday, February 15 and Saturday, February 16, the Force will host combined workouts with the Orlando Predators at their Flowery Branch practice facility.
