Georgia Force News Release
AUSTIN, TX - The Georgia Force (12-2) continued their impressive season with an 81-64 victory over the Austin Wranglers (4-10). The win improved Georgia's division record to 6-0 and marked a new franchise-high for wins in a season (12) and for road wins in a single-season (five). Georgia's 81 points marks a new single-game franchise-high, surpassing the previous high of 78 set earlier this year (4/21/07 vs. Dallas). QB Chris Greisen led the high powered Force offense as he completed 28 of 33 (84.8 pct) passes for 388 yards with nine touchdowns. Greisen's 388 passing yards set a new Force single-game record, which he set vs. Las Vegas on May 15, 2007 (376). Midway through the third quarter, Greisen completed a one-yard touchdown pass to WR Carl Morris for his sixth of the game. The touchdown marked his 100th of the season, making him only the fourth quarterback in professional football history to accomplish the feat. Greisen was supported by WR Troy Bergeron and WR Chris Jackson. Bergeron hauled in 13 receptions for 194 yards with four touchdowns in the win. His 194 receiving yards also marks a single-game franchise high, surpassing the previous best of 192 set by WR Derek Lee at San Jose (3/17/06).
The first quarter belonged to the Georgia Force as they led the Austin Wranglers 27-14 at the end of the first 15 minutes of play. Georgia's first score of the contest came on a one-yard rush by WR Chris Jackson. On the ensuing kickoff, the ball bounced off the crossbar and was recovered by Force WR Troy Bergeron on the one-yard line. Georgia FB/LB Matt Huebner plowed into the endzone on the very next play to give the Force a 13-0 lead. Austin registered their first points of the game on a 31-yard pass from QB Lang Campbell to WR Derrick Lewis. Greisen marched the Force offense back down the field, where he connected with Jackson from seven yards out for the team's third score of the quarter. Lewis hauled in his second touchdown catch of the game despite being leveled by Force DB David Crocker. Georgia added another score with a 23-yard dart from the arm of Greisen to the hands of Jackson. The touchdown marked the third for Jackson in the quarter.
Georgia continued to lead the Wranglers by the score of 40-28 as the first half came to a close. The Force defense produced the first defensive stop of the game when they held their ground with the Austin facing a first and goal from the five-yard line. Georgia turned the stop into a score with Greisen connecting with Bergeron for the first-time in the game. The two teams would trade scores for the remainder of the quarter as Greisen would add another touchdown to Bergeron before the end of the quarter. Greisen completed 19 of 21 (90.5 comp. pct.) pass attempts for 237 yards with four touchdowns in the first half.
Greisen made professional football history in the third quarter when he found WR Carl Morris on a one-yard touchdown pass. The touchdown pass marked the 100th of the season for Greisen and marked only the fourth player in the pro football history to reach the mark. Greisen was in the competition with Utah Blaze QB Joe Germaine to reach the mark, but Germaine only had 99 when Greisen threw the touchdown pass. The Force lead was trimmed to 11 points at the end of the quarter, but they still held a 60-49 advantage. Greisen threw three touchdowns in the quarter, which brought his total to seven with one quarter remaining in the game.
Georgia extended their lead down the stretch and defeated Austin 81-64. The 81 points scored is a single-game franchise-high that surpasses the previous mark of 78 set on April 21, 2007 vs. Dallas.
