Lincoln Stars News Release
Stars assistant coach George Lewis has accepted a position with Penn State University and will serve as the program's Director of Hockey Operations.
"It's a terrific opportunity," Lewis said. "It's been my professional aspiration to work for Penn State since I left as a volunteer six years ago. It's a great move for myself and my family."
Lewis joined the Stars in July of 2021 after spending three years with the Amarillo Bulls of the North American Hockey League as an Assistant Coach and Director of Player Personnel.
"George represented the Lincoln Stars in a first-class manner and we are very thankful of his efforts and hard work," Stars General Manager Nick Fabrizio said. "We wish him and his family nothing but the best moving forward."
In Lincoln, the West Chester, PA native's duties also included running the Stars defensive corps, a group that scored a USHL-best 63 goals in the regular season.
"I'm most proud of being a part of the players' experience here and putting the Stars back on the map," Lewis said. "We went from limited expectations to a playoff team and the guys had a really good experience, so I think it was a great season."
Lewis was brought in to work alongside Stars Head Coach Rocky Russo, continuing a coaching tandem that found prior success with the Bulls, as well as the Philly Little Flyers of the Eastern Hockey League.
"George is somebody that I can trust," Russo said. "He has a great hockey mind and he's really good with the players. He builds his relationships and rapport with the guys. He's a guy who challenged me. Ultimately, we always found what was best for our team, whether that was in Philly, Amarillo or in Lincoln. I hope that George learned as much from me over the course of the time we worked together as I learned from him."
A national search for a new assistant coach will begin immediately. There is no set timeline to make a hire.
