Oshawa, Ontario - The Generals picked up a huge 2 points in the standings on Friday night. They hammered the Bulls 8-1 before a roaring crowd of 5,793 at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa. Scott Laughton completed the hat-trick and registered 4 points on the night. Matt Petgrave and Nicklas Jensen had 3 helpers apiece. 7 Generals had at least 2 point games, and Daniel Maggio had a +4 rating. Kevin Bailie made his 12th consecutive start in goal and made 31 stops in the win. With the victory, Oshawa stands alone as the 6th seed in the Eastern Conference.
The Generals owned the first period. Goals from Christian Thomas and Scott Laughton gave Oshawa a 2-0 lead, and the Generals outshot the Bulls 12-8 in the frame.
In the second period, the Generals balanced a strong attack with shutdown hockey. They added 3 to their total, from Emerson Clark, Sebastian Uvira, and Scott Laughton, and surrendered 1 on the penalty kill.
Charlie Graham relieved Subban to start the third, but the onslaught continued. Lucas Lessio, Scott Sabourin, each scored in the period, which completed Laughton's hat trick.
Oshawa outshot Belleville 37-32 on the night.
Scott Laughton, Nicklas Jensen and Matt Petgrave were the game's three star selections. The Generals hit the road tomorrow night, Saturday February 18th, to take on the Barrie Colts in the first half of a home-and-home. Puck drops at 7:30 PM, and the game can be seen live on Rogers TV Durham.
The Generals return home to battle Barrie on Family Day, Monday February 20th. Start time is 2:05 PM at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa.
