Generals win fifth consecutive game

GREENSBORO—For the first time all season the Greensboro Generals won their fifth consecutive game, four of which came by way of the road, with a 1-0 victory over the Gwinnett Gladiators. The first home shutout of the season, Jamie Hodson stopped 56 shots on goal, to extend his scoreless streak to 147:17, dating back to the second period against the Columbia Inferno.

In a sluggish first periods for both teams, Gwinnett out shot Greensboro 16-12, where each team had two power-play opportunities, however no goals were scored.

A scoreless game throughout the second period, the Generals netminder Jamie Hodson spent a large part of his time on the ice defending the Gladiators 16 shots on goal. Through the first two periods of action, Gwinnett amassed 32 shots on goal, as opposed to 18 for Greensboro. The Generals defense continued its stellar play, stopping both Gladiator power-play opportunities.

In the third, Greensboro (26-17-1) netted the only goal of the game, a stark contrast to the road game at Charlotte when Greensboro scored in the first. Newcomer Derek Crimin found Joel Irwin who came off a screen to give Greensboro the 1-0 advantage just 2:07 into the frame. Gwinnett (23-15-3) was able to penetrate the Generals zone, however Hodson stopped goals on his back, with his glove, and casted them off his foot to keep his scoreless streak intacted.

The Generals return home on Thursday, when the take on in-state rival Charlotte, renewing the rivalry for the Carolina Cup. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase $1 draft at the Greensboro Coliseum.
