Hoover, AL - James Paxton yielded two hits and collected 10 strikeouts over 6.2 scoreless IP as the Jackson Generals (18-24, 56-56) stonewalled the Birmingham Barons (16-26, 56-56), 2-0, in front of 6,213 fans Saturday night at Regions Park.

In the top of the fifth inning, Brandon Bantz singled to right field and continued to second after Scott Savastano drew a walk. A RBI double to left field by Carlos Triunfel plated Bantz for Jackson's first run of the game, 1-0.

Vinnie Catricala launched a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning for the Generals that capped the scoring in the game, 2-0.

Paxton (2-0) earned the victory for the Generals with 2 hits, 2 walks and 10 strikeouts in 6.2 scoreless IP. Edward Paredes (S, 1) registered the save as the lefty tossed 1.0 hitless IP with two walks.

Hector Santiago (4-4) garnered the loss for the Barons after he pitched 5.0 IP with one earned run on 5 hits, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.

The Barons and Generals continue game three of the five-game series with first pitch set for 5:00 p.m. Sunday night at Regions Park. Birmingham sends left-hander Charlie Leesman (8-5, 4.19) to the mound and Jackson counters with left-handed pitcher James Gillheeny (0-1, 15.00).
