Pearl, MS --- Yasmani Grandal hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the eighth to lift the Carolina Mudcats to a 5-4 win over the Mississippi Braves at Trustmark Park on Saturday night.

Grandal, plucked off the bench as Carolina's last position player, went to the opposite field against reliever Brett Butts (L, 0-1) on a 2-2 pitch to put Carolina (19-22) ahead 5-4. The Mudcats' rally started with two outs and none on thanks to a walk by James Skelton.

Mississippi (19-23) had built a 3-1 lead against first-time Double-A starter Josh Ravin after three innings, only to see the Mudcats tie the game on a double by Bill Rhinehart in the fourth. Ravin surrendered one last run in the fifth as Antoan Richardson scored from third on a groundball back to the mound.

Rhinehart homered in the second against Zeke Spruill to give Carolina a 1-0 edge before the Braves tied the game in the bottom half on a sac fly by Braeden Schlehuber.

Ravin worked five innings in his debut, permitting four hits and five walks, while fanning five.

Tim Gustafson (W, 3-7) notched the win thanks to a pair of hitless innings in relief, claiming the triumph over the team with which he stared the 2011 season. Justin Freeman and Donnie Joseph (S, 4) threw a hitless inning to polish off the victory.

Mike Costanzo, making his first start since coming down from Triple-A on Thursday, went 2-5 with a pair of doubles.

Justin Lehr (0-1, 3.57) starts the middle game of the series on Sunday at 6:05 PM ET against Luis Avilan (3-6, 4.44).
