Greensboro Generals News Release
Greensboro, NC - Greensboro Generals Head Coach/General Manager Rick Adduono has announced the signings of defenseman Derrick Byfuglien and center Eric Fortier.
Byfuglien rejoins the Generals for a second consecutive season, after proving to be one of the best additions to the team in the latter half of 2002-03. He was acquired from Mississippi, where he played in 49 contests, registering two goals, 12 assists and 14 points.
"Derrick was instrumental in our playoff run," said Adduono. "The most important aspect that he brings to the Generals is his speed, which will be very dangerous. I expect a break through goal scoring season from him."
The addition of Fortier, currently the youngest player on the Generals roster, brings yet another offensive threat to an improving front line. In 2002-03 with Jackson, Fortier appeared in all 72 regular season games, while scoring 19 goals and contributing 18 assists for 37 points.
"Eric's 19 goals as a rookie are a big accomplishment, and we expect big outputs on a nightly basis from Eric this season," said Adduono.
The Generals open the season at home on October 17th at 7:30 PM against the South Carolina Stingrays. Next up is the newly formed Texas Wildcatters who visit the Greensboro Coliseum for the first time on October 23rd at 7:30 PM.
Individual tickets for all Greensboro Generals 2003-04 home games are on sale now. Tickets may be purchased at the Coliseum advance box office, all participating Triad area Lowes Foods locations, on-line at www.tickets.com and by calling toll free (888) 397-3100.
