Generals Shut Down Jacks

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the International Hockey League put together another solid 60 minute effort in a very important 3-2 victory over the Muskegon Lumberjacks in front of 3,402 at L.C. Walker Arena on Saturday night.

The Generals jumped out to an all important lead in the first 9 minutes of the 1st period. Center Jordan Boman (2) scored on a shot high to the glove side of Lumberjack goaltender Clayton Pool at 5:59 for the 1-0 lead. Flint increased their lead to 2-0 when veteran forward Rob Voltera (6) pounced on a loose rebound and snapped a shot top-shelf at 9:01.

Still in the first period, the Generals lead was cut in half as Muskegon's Robin Bouchard (16) scored at 15:27 with the Generals still on top 2-1. Flint gained the 2-goal cushion back when right wing John DiPace (23), playing in career game #400, took a pass from center Greg Bullock moving into the Lumberjacks' zone and rifled at shot, glove side past Pool for the 3-1 first period lead, short-handed at 17:51 as the Generals took the lead into the second period of play.

Muskegon closed the gap in the second period but could get no closer when Bouchard (17) scored his second goal of the game at 18:29 for the 3-2 final. The third period was scoreless as the Generals put forth another solid defensive effort to earn a much needed victory. Generals' goaltender Bill Zaniboni stopped 40 of 42 shots en route to the victory, his 4th as a General.

Flint (16-27-2-4, 38 pts.) is in 6th place in the IHL standings, trailing 5th place Bloomington by 4 points.
