Victoria Generals News Release

The Victoria Generals' season came to a close as they fell to the Seguin River Monsters 6-2 in Game 3 of the Texas Collegiate League playoffs at Riverside Stadium. Victoria finishes the 2023 season with a team-best record of 33-17 as Seguin advances to the TCL championship to take on the Brazos Valley Bombers.

UTSA RHP Zach Royse pitched the first two innings and took home the loss, allowing four earned runs with one unearned run on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Texas State RHP Jonathan Martinez added two scoreless frames with three strikeouts before Galveston College LHP RJ Patrick worked two scoreless innings with a pair of punchouts.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi RHP Austin Dean gave up a run in two innings on three hits and a walk with a strikeout. Kansas Wesleyan RHP KT Gearlds then closed out the ninth by striking out the side, lowering his ERA to 2.36.

The Generals' offense failed to get going as a unit, with A&M-Corpus Christi 2B and General of the Year Drake Kerr picking up two of the team's five hits. He scored both runs to finish the season with a .307 batting average. Texas State CF Damien Whitfield added a single and an RBI for a .324 mark, while UT-Arlington 1B Tyce Armstrong and McNeese State SS Easton Dowell picked up singles for averages of .297 and .259, respectively. Southeastern 3B Cristopher Munoz drew two walks with an RBI as he finished the summer with a .412 on-base percentage.

The River Monsters took an early lead with an RBI double and an RBI single in the opening frame to take a 2-0 lead. Their lead grew to 5-0 in the second behind an RBI double, RBI groundout and an RBI single. Kerr led off the fourth inning with a triple and came home on Whitfield's RBI groundout to chip into the lead. Victoria got within three as Munoz drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth. An RBI single in the eighth added an insurance run for Seguin.

The Generals will return to Riverside Stadium next summer for the organization's 16th season. We'd like to thank all the players, coaches, employees and fans that made this summer memorable!
