Jackson Generals News Release

Montgomery, Ala. - Jackson scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning Monday to take down Montgomery 5-4, snapping a four-game losing streak. The back-and-forth affair featured three lead changes over the eighth and ninth innings at Montgomery's Riverwalk Stadium.

Down 4-3, Jackson (5-10) rallied in the top of the ninth against Montgomery's Mark Sappington (1-1, 5.40). Dario Pizzano led off the frame with a single, his third hit of the ballgame. Jabari Henry and Leury Bonilla followed with walks to load the bases with nobody out. Steve Baron tied the game with an RBI single to left field, driving in his team-leading seventh run of the year. Zach Shank, Jackson's next better, was hit by a pitch to force in the go-ahead run to make it 5-4.

Tony Zych (S, 1) threw just nine pitches in a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his first save of the season. He struck out Justin O'Conner to end the ballgame. Jackson has had to come from behind in four of their five wins so far this season.

Most of the game's action took place in the final two frames. Jackson trailed 2-1 going into the eighth, but singles from Jack Reinheimer and Zach Shank put men on first and second with nobody out. Reinheimer and Shank moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Jordy Lara drove in the tying run with a groundout to third base, and Gabriel Guerrero gave the Generals the lead with a single to right that plated Reinheimer to make it 3-2. An error by outfielder Kes Carter allowed the ball to go all the way to the wall, but Guerrero was thrown out a home.

Montgomery (9-9) had an answer against Trevor Miller (1-0, 6.97) in the bottom of the inning. With one down, Cameron Seitzer singled and Johnny Field, Jr. launched his fourth homer of the year to left to put the Biscuits in front 4-3.

The game was dominated by its starting pitchers in the early going. The Generals struck first in the second, when an error by Seitzer allowed Guerrero to score from first. That was the only blemish for Montgomery's Jared Mortensen, who gave up five hits in seven strong innings of work.

Stephen Landazuri turned in another workmanlike effort for the Generals, giving up just two hits in five scoreless innings. He struck out four while also issuing a season-high four free passes.

The Biscuits didn't get on the board until after Landazuri was removed from the game. Tommy Coyle's sixth inning triple against Moises Hernandez plated Richie Shaffer and Field to give Montgomery a 2-1 edge. That was the first of four lead changes in Monday's ballgame.

Dario Pizzano (3-for-4) led the way with his second three-hit game of the season to extend his hitting streak to nine games. After reaching on an error in the second inning, he singled in his last three at-bats. Pizzano has 15 hits in 36 at-bats over the stretch.

The series continues on Tuesday night as Jackson tries to even the series. Kyle Hunter (1-0, 5.63) will take the ball for the Generals against Montgomery's Reinaldo Lopez (0-0, 3.45). First pitch is at 7:05 pm CT from Riverwalk stadium, and you can catch all the action on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1 and 94.3) starting at 6:50 pm with the Pregame Show protected by the Tennessee Army National Guard.
