Generals Offense Struggles in Loss to Cane Cutters

Generals return to Riverside Stadium after spending the last week on the road. The Generals host the Cane Cutters on Free Ticket Night presented by Sodalis Victoria Assisted Living. Generals looking to finish the last week of the regular season strong.

The Generals defense started strong in the first three innings as Angel Mendoza would throw out two attempted steals at second and catch foul outs. Adam Becker would also make a diving play at third to throw out a runner. The pitchers would also start strong in these three innings as both John Mancuso and Hunter Kloesel would get four strikeouts.

The pitching would keep the offenses scoreless through five innings until the top of the sixth. With the leadoff batter grounding out, Patrick Lee would hit a powerful shot to center field wall to get a triple followed by a single from Justin Williams to bring home the runner to score the first run of the game.

The Cane Cutters made a pitching change to Brayton Cardwell to start the bottom of the sixth inning. Mancuso's night would end with five innings, six strikeouts, one hit, three walks, and no runs allowed.

The Generals made a pitching change to start the seventh inning. Generals would bring in Brett Brown to end Kloesel's night with six innings, five strikeouts, four hits, one walk, and one run earned.

After giving up a leadoff walk in the bottom of the seventh, Cane Cutters made a pitching change to Nicholas Judice ending Cardwell's night. After a fielder's choice, Cardwell's line would be one inning, two walks, one hit, and no runs allowed.

The Cane Cutters offense would get going again in the top of the eighth after Williams reached on an error and River Orsak drew a walk, Bobby Lada would hit a double into left field bringing home Williams. After a flyout from Matt Abshire, Christian Garcia would hit a single that would bring both baserunners to extend their lead. The score heading into the bottom of the eighth would be 4-0 Cane Cutters.

The Generals would make a pitching change to start the top of the ninth to Cole Payne to keep the offense in the game. Brown would end with two innings, two strikeouts, one hit, one walk, and three runs allowed all being unearned. Payne would have runners on the corner, but would get two strikeouts in the inning to keep the score at 4-0 to keep the offense in the game in the bottom of the ninth.

To finish the game for the Cane Cutters, they made a pitching change to Jay Ward ending Judice's night with two innings, two strikeouts, and one hit. After the leadoff hitter on first, the Generals would get two runners on base before Mendoza would strikeout for the last out of the game as the Generals would lose 4-0.

The Generals will host the Cane Cutters tomorrow to finish a two game series before a three game series against the Seguin River Monsters starting on Thursday at Riverside Stadium in a home, road, home series to end the season before the playoffs start.
