Generals Fall to Rougarou 5-3 in Extra Innings

The Victoria Generals dropped a 5-3 decision to the Baton Rouge Rougarou in 10 innings at Riverside Stadium. Victoria fell to 7-8 this season while Baton Rouge improved to a league-leading 9-5.

Eastern Oklahoma State LF Drake Kerr and UT-Rio Grande Valley SS Kade York paced the Generals' offense with a run and two hits each, making up half of the team's eight total hits. Abilene Christian 3B Riley Bender knocked in a run and scored one himself, while McNeese State 2B Easton Dowell also collected an RBI.

Abilene Christian RHP Holt Gibson started on the mound for Victoria, allowing three runs over three innings on two hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Huston-Tillotson RHP Seve Medrano contributed three scoreless innings of relief with two hits, a walk and a punchout. Angelina College RHP Trace Sanchez and Panola College RHP Sam Simmons each added a scoreless inning, with the latter tallying a strikeout. Angelina College RHP Taylor Seay took the loss after giving up two runs over two frames with two hits and three strikeouts.

The Rougarou jumped to a 3-0 lead with a trio of runs in the top of the third inning on a bases-clearing double. The Generals cut into the lead in the fourth as Bender showed heads-up baserunning by darting home after a double play. The score was knotted at 3-3 in the fifth after an RBI single from Dowell and an RBI groundout from Bender. The score remained tied to force extra innings, with Baton Rouge scoring the eventual winning runs in the tenth on an RBI double and an RBI single. Per Texas Collegiate League rules, extra innings begin with a runner on second for each team.

Victoria looks to return to .500 in the standings on Sunday, June 18, as it takes on the Seguin River Monsters at Riverside Stadium at 7:05 p.m. It's Dad's Day at the Park, presented by Explore Victoria Texas. All fans will be admitted free, and kids can play catch with Dad on the field at 6:30 p.m. prior to the game.
