July 18, 2023 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
Victoria Generals News Release
The Victoria Generals were shut out by the Seguin River Monsters in a 3-0 loss at Smokey Joe Williams Field in Seguin. Victoria's eight and ninth inning rallies fell short as it fell to 23-14.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi RHP Kody Gibbs earned the starting nod, allowing three runs over 6.1 innings on five hits and four walks with four strikeouts to take the loss. Texas State RHP Jonathan Martinez added 1.2 scoreless frames of relief with a hit and a walk.
Texas State CF Damien Whitfield paced the Generals' offense with two hits and the only walk issued by Seguin pitching. Southeastern CF Cristopher Munoz picked up a hit in a pinch hit at-bat.
The ballgame remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning, when the River Monsters scored a run with an RBI sacrifice fly. They added two more runs in the seventh behind a 2-run single. Victoria loaded the bases with one out in the eighth but left the inning empty-handed. Down to its last out in the ninth, the Generals rattled off three-straight hits to load the bases, but a flyout ended the game.
Both teams meet again on Tuesday, July 18, to wrap up a five-game series. First pitch from Smokey Joe Williams Field is set for 7 p.m.
