Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - Specialty teams have been one of the strong suits for the Flint Generals this season, but it wasn't on Thursday night. The Generals yielded two specialty team goals and dropped a 3-1 decision to the Fort Wayne Komets at Perani Arena and Event Center.
The Generals fell to 4-7-1-0 with the loss while the Fort Wayne Komets moved into sole possession of first place in the IHL with a 7-2 record. It's the first game of three in a row for the club that continues on Friday night with their first visit to Kalamazoo to face the Wings at 7:30 pm.
The difference in the game was a power play goal scored by the Komets 91 seconds into the game and then a shorthanded goal tallied late in the third period to make it 3-0. Flint was only able to manage one power play goal and it came in the third period when Kyle Deck scored from Greg Bullock. The Generals were 1 for 9 on the power play and had a two man advantage in the final four minutes of the game but failed to score.
Sebastien Laplante was solid in net for Fort Wayne turning aside 30 of 31 shots, while Chad Alban took the loss and stopped 18 of 21 shots he faced.
It was the first game behind the bench for Bobby Reynolds who was named to the Generals coaching staff earlier in the day during a press conference.
