Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (57-50) fell to the Jackson Generals (58-48), 3-2, on Sunday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
With starting pitcher J.D. Martin on the disabled list, Montgomery turned to its bullpen to fill his spot in the rotation. The Generals jumped on Biscuits' starter Dalton Moats, who surrendered back-to-back two-out doubles to Domingo Leyba and Jamie Westbrook. Leyba came around to score on Westbrook's two-bagger, supplying Jackson a 1-0 lead.
The Biscuits came charging back against Generals' starting pitcher Justin Donatella (5-6). Starting with a Nate Lowe single, Montgomery manufactured a run. Lowe, after a base knock by Dalton Kelly, was plated by Brett Sullivan who drove home his 47th RBI of the season.
In the fifth, Nathan Lukes belted a Donatella offering over the right-center field wall, recording his fifth home run of the season.
With Montgomery up 2-1, Brandon Lawson suddenly had trouble in relief of Moats. The right-hander had turned in four scoreless innings, stranding lead-off batters in each frame.
Although Lawson was able to retire Ben DeLuzio, who started the sixth with a single, three straight base knocks knotted the score. The next inning, Kevin Medrano picked up his second hit, scoring the go-ahead run with an RBI-double off Curtis Taylor (3-3).
Trailing by a run, the Biscuits could only muster a pair of walks and a single in the final three innings. In the eighth, Montgomery had its best chance to dissolve the deficit with runners on the corners and one out. But, Mike Brosseau's sharply hit ground ball was turned for a double-play, silencing the threat.
The Biscuits continue a five-game homestand against Jackson at 6:35 p.m. on Golden Biscuits Monday. Montgomery will start Benton Moss (3-4) while the Generals will offer Joel Payamps (9-3).
The series also includes Dough Fest on Tuesday, July 31, and Military Wednesday with Business Person Specials on August 1.
