
Generals Drop Fourth Straight in 5-2 Loss to Cane Cutters

The Victoria Generals couldn't hold onto an early lead against the Acadiana Cane Cutters, dropping a 5-2 decision at Fabacher Field in Youngsville, Louisiana. Victoria scored two runs over the first two innings, but the bats were held silent for the rest of the night with seven total hits. With the loss, the Generals fall to 3-7 on the year.
A&M-Corpus Christi RHP Kody Gibbs got the starting nod for the Generals, logging 3.2 frames while allowing one run on three hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Houston LHP Bryson Walker was tabbed with the loss after giving up two earned runs and two unearned runs over 2.2 innings on four hits, three walks and three punchouts. Kansas Wesleyan RHP KT Gearlds entered in relief for 0.2 innings with a strikeout before Angelina Junior College RHP Taylor Seay pitched the final inning with a punchout.
Abilene Christian 3B Riley Bender and Cornell SS Ryan Porter paced Victoria at the plate with two hits apiece, while Bender drew two walks as well. Western Oklahoma State CF Cristopher Munoz's RBI groundout pushed the Generals' first run across in the first inning, and Porter scored on a passed ball in the second to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Acadiana cut the deficit in half in the fourth with an RBI single before scoring on a passed ball in the fifth to tie things up. The Cane Cutters scored three runs in the seventh inning on a walk, error and wild pitch to grab the lead.
Victoria takes on Acadiana in a rematch on Monday, June 12, at Fabacher Field, with first pitch set for 7 p.m.
