
Generals Drop 6-4 Decision to River Monsters

The Victoria Generals fell to the Seguin River Monsters 6-4 at Smokey Joe Williams after allowing a pair of late inning runs. Victoria committed four errors for three unearned runs as it dropped to 22-13 with its third loss in a row.
Southeastern CF Cristopher Munoz, Texas State 3B Xavier Perez and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi C Jared Harris led the offense with six of the team's eight hits by tallying two hits each. Kalamazoo College 1B Robert Newland scored a pair of runs while A&M-Corpus Christi 2B Drake Kerr drew two walks to raise his team-high total to 33. On the basepaths, Munoz stole two bags.
UTSA RHP Braylon Owens pitched the first six innings, allowing one earned run and three unearned runs on seven hits while striking out five batters. Huston-Tillotson RHP Seve Medrano was tagged with the loss in the final two frames after surrendering a pair of runs on four hits and a walk with two punchouts.
Newland scored the game's first run in the top of the second inning, coming home on Perez's RBI groundout after a leadoff double and advancing on a wild pitch. Seguin responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning with the benefit of four errors by the Victoria defense.
The Generals answered with a run in the top of the third on a Munoz RBI single and tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth behind Harris' RBI single and Kerr's RBI sacrifice bunt. The River Monsters scored the go-ahead run in the seventh on an RBI groundout and added an insurance run in the eighth via an RBI single.
Victoria returns to Riverside Stadium on Saturday, July 14, for a rematch with Seguin at 7:05 p.m. It's Free Ticket Night, presented by TISD Internet Services, as well as Strike Out Cancer Night, presented by Citizen Medical Services. The Generals will wear commemorative pink Strike Out Cancer jerseys that will be auctioned off following the game with 100% of the money raised going to the fight against cancer.
