Windsor Spitfires News Release
WINDSOR, ON. The Spitfires won two in a row for the first time on Thursday evening after a 4-1 victory over Barrie. The Spitfires were looking to make it three in a row over the Generals on Saturday. The Spitfires were unable to do that as they took the 6-3 loss.
In the first period, the Spitfires would take flight first just over a minute into the game. A bouncing puck went to the stick of Maillet at centre ice and he skated in on a breakaway and went five-hole for his 6th of the year. Just over five minutes later, the Generals would tie it up off a bouncing puck off the end boards that came in front. The shots were tied at 10 a piece after the first period.
In the second frame, it was the same story. An early goal by the Spitfires gave them a 2-1 lead. As a powerplay ended, Greentree got the puck to Cristoforo at the point and his shot went wide and bounced behind the net. The puck went off the dasher to the stick of Maillet who tapped in his 2nd of the game. Just eight minutes later, the Generals would score off a rush and a nice passing play to tie the game at two. After 40 minutes, we were tied 2-2 on the scoreboard and Generals had a narrow 22-21 shot lead.
In the third period, the Generals would come out flying. They would gain their first lead of the game just under three minutes into the period to take a 3-2 lead. Just less than three minutes later, the Spitfires would respond. Morneau won the faceoff to Spellacy and he went around the top of the circle and wristed his 6th of the season to tie the game at 3. Late in the third period, the Generals would create a nifty play on the back door as the Spitfires stood and watched and would go up 4-3 with Buckley's 13th on the year. The Generals would add two empty netters and take this game, 6-3.
The Spitfires are back in action tomorrow, Sunday, December 10th for our annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Puck drop is set for 4:05pm vs the Flint Firebirds.
