Victoria Generals News Release

Three players tallied multiple hits each as the Victoria Generals defeated the Acadiana Cane Cutters 6-2 at Fabacher Field. Victoria jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning before falling behind 2-1 after the sixth, but five runs in the top of the seventh secured the win and improved the Generals' record to 14-10.

UT-Arlington 1B Tyce Armstrong was the offensive catalyst with a 4-for-4 performance along with four runs batted in, a run scored and a walk. A&M-Corpus Christi LF Drake Kerr wasn't far behind with a 3-for-4 showing featuring two runs scored and a walk. Western Oklahoma State RF Derek Cerda recorded two base hits as Victoria banged out 12 total hits.

UTSA RHP Zach Royse pitched the first five innings for Victoria, allowing two runs on three hits, six walks and five strikeouts before Galveston College LHP RJ Patrick walked two batters in 0.2 innings. Panola College RHP Sam Simmons earned the win after shutting the door on the final 3.1 scoreless frames with two hits, a walk and six punchouts.

The Generals got on the board early with Armstrong belting an RBI single in the first inning after Kerr led off with a single. The score remained stagnant until the bottom of the sixth when the Cane Cutters added a pair of runs on a bases-loaded walk and an RBI double play.

Trailing 2-1, Victoria put up five runs in the top of the seventh, three of which came off the bat of Armstrong, whose 3-run triple put the Generals ahead for good. A sacrifice bunt by Abilene Christian 3B Riley Bender and an error plated two insurance runs as Victoria held onto the lead.

Both teams return to play on Thursday, June 29, for a rematch at Fabacher Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
